Conditions such as heart disease and diabetes run in families. Even so, not everyone in such families will develop the disease

Why is this? What puts some people at high risk for certain diseases, while others in the same family have a low risk?

In part, the answer lies in a person’s genes. We know that genes influence the chance for developing almost any disease.
